Kyiv. September 27. UNN. The number of Russian citizens crossing the border with Georgia has almost doubled against the background of the announced “partial mobilization” in the Russian Federation. This was stated by Interior Minister of Georgia Vakhtang Gomelauri, writes UNN with reference to “News – Georgia“.
“About 4-5 days ago, the number of citizens coming from Russia every day was 5-6,000, and now it has increased to 10,000. The increase is about 40-45%,” said The Minister.
Homelauri did not name the exact number of citizens of the Russian Federation who have entered Georgia since September 21, but pointed out that the figure of 250,000 people reported by journalists is incorrect. Moreover, he added, about 60% of Russians who arrive these days later leave the country.
According to the minister, additional police forces have been sent to the Verkhniy Lars checkpoint in case “it is necessary to remove, detain or deport someone”. It is reported that Georgian customs has gone into emergency operation mode.
Looking for alternative checkpoints, Tbilisi has also started negotiations with the customs administrations of neighboring countries – Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia, the publication writes.
