Police in a south Alberta town were caught on video chasing an ostriches through the streets on Thursday.
A herd of the flightless birds were filmed running through the streets of Taber, a town about three hours’ drive southeast of Calgary. Taber Police Service posted on Facebook and Instagram that police found a “number” of ostriches within city limits.
Police said the human-size birds — were traffic hazards.
The RCMP collaborated with Taber police, the latter said on Instagram, to confine the ostriches (the tallest and heaviest avian species on the planet) so their owners could “safely capture them.”
Corey Theriault, a reporter with CityNews in Edmonton, posted a video of the ostriches to Twitter.
