After a two-year hiatus due to covetousness and construction, Flamborough’s popular Santa Claus Parade is held again on Saturday. The cost of the event is significantly higher than in past years.
The parade was in danger due to skyrocketing costs, “we were moving smoothly, then we received a notification that we had a higher insurance bill than expected because we needed liability insurance , and then we had a donor who wasn’t able to keep their pledge,” parade organizer Stephanie Wilsack said.
The insurance alone went from about $1,200 to about $7,000. This, combined with the loss of a large donation, left the organizing committee short of $9,000.
“We understand it’s a different time and we understand the challenges ahead. We just wish we had a little more notice so we could plan accordingly,” Wilsack said.
The Flamborough Santa Claus Parade begins on Hamilton Street in Waterdown and ends on Parkside Drive.
Organizers say that with the help of the community they raised enough to organize the parade, but they say they rely on that continued support moving forward.
You can make a donation on the Flamborough Santa Claus Parade website, or during the event there will be donation buckets. The parade begins at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
