A tricky one, man. The most important rule of men’s style, to me, is that you should always be comfortable with yourself and enjoy what you’re wearing. I think as long as you have that and you’re confident in what you’re wearing, you can wear anything and you’ll look good in it. Obviously, there will be plenty of other things you can look into after this, but as long as you’re confident and love what you’re wearing, that’s it, man! That’s all you need!

The most important rule of male style is really hard to pin down, but if I had to, I’d say three: proportion, color, and scale. And I think men of any body type and shape can use all three of these to find something that works for them.

The most important rule of menswear is – first of all, don’t do what I do… – but always default to the most classic and never underestimate the power of navy blue.

The most important rule of male style is shape and understanding what shape means. You see people trying to dress better and they make simple mistakes – their jacket sleeves may be too long or too short. Same with their pants. You see people with their pants sort of stuffed up around their ankles. These are easy things to fix and it will make your clothes look better on you. And then people make the mistake of wearing clothes that are too tight – or too loose – but generally too tight. Understanding what fit means to you and your body and what you want to look like is, I think, the most important thing. Everything else follows from there.

Be honest with yourself. Everything else falls into place. Once you’re true to yourself, you’ll understand your colors, you’ll understand what works with you, what doesn’t, whether it’s cut, color or patterns. And once you understand that and are true to yourself, you will get results and do everything right.

The most important rule of male style is – whatever you wear, whatever style or world you see yourself in, aesthetically speaking – is to wear it with confidence, with integrity, and just make sure that at all times you know it’s you wearing it, it’s your personality, and it doesn’t matter what other people think.

The most important rule of men’s style – I don’t know if there’s just one – but, of course, I would say, you have to feel comfortable with what you’re wearing. The secret of made-to-measure, I am a fan of made-to-measure, is to feel comfortable because made-to-measure is fit. So study the rules, try to interpret them and adapt them to your style, and feel comfortable with what you’re wearing.

The most important rule of men’s style – I’m glad you asked that question – is that there are no rules. And I think you see that here at the Pitti here in Florence. Everyone somehow follows what inspires them. And so, I think, let go of all the restraints that people have and just feel free to express yourself and dig into what makes you feel like the best version of yourself.
Mitchell Moss, Thoughts on Menswear
I would say that the most important rule of men’s style is the cut, but it is closely related to the silhouette. Because a well-fitting jacket, a well-fitting trouser, if you’re going for a slim fit or even a traditional fit, you don’t want it to be too baggy. But sometimes you want a little more drape at the chest or something. But a jacket that’s too big is always too big. Fit is therefore essential within the limits of the silhouette you are trying to adopt.
