Chelsea are back with a bid worth £105m ($130m) for Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez. Failing to secure a deal on the line in early January, Chelsea rekindled their interest in Fernandez with the transfer window almost closed. Reports say the Blues have tabled a £105m bid with Benfica for the Argentine and are optimistic their approach will be successful ahead of the transfer deadline.
The current offer respects the buyout clause inserted in Fernandez’s Benfica contract, but sees the fee spread over one larger payment and five smaller installments. The report says that leaves room for negotiation, but with the money offered, Chelsea hope it will be enough to convince Benfica to finally let Fernandez go. If the deal is done for the fee, Fernandez would smash the record UK transfer fee set by Jack Greish when he moved to Manchester City in 2021, while eclipsing the £97million club-record fee they paid to re-sign Romelu Lukaku of Inter.
